A classical fairy tale, considered to be one of the most beautiful and popular in the world, in witty and unique update by the Czech director Marek Bečka.

About the performance

Once upon a time, there was a house in the suburbs, where a father lived with his son Michael and a goat who would tell nothing but lies. Michael was in love with Margaret. One day, he came into possession of a wishing table, a golden sheep and a magic club that could punish all the liars and the thieves ...

About the director

In 2005, Marek Bečka directed his first performance for Mini teater, the puppet theatre version of the Puss in Boots. We have invited this popular Czech director and actor once more, to direct one of the most beautiful fairytales ever written - The Wishing Table.

Marek Becka was born in Pilsen in 1964. During his rich theatrical career he has worked as an actor in the theatre DRAK from Hradec karlowe, and later, as a free-lance author, prepared a number of street and puppet performances for the youngest audiences. In 1991, he founded the theatre Bouchty a Loutky (=doughnuts and puppets), where over the course of 13 years, he has created more than 25 performances, some of which are well known to the Slovenian audience from international festivals like LUTKE, Mini Summer, Lutkovni Pristan, or Primorski poletni festival.

Bečka lectures at the Prague University of Performing Arts DAMU; where one of his sudents was also Matija Solce, a prominent Slovene puppeteer. Marek Bečka works regularly with several different puppet theatres in the Czech Republic. Directing The Wishing Table will be his second collaboration with a theatre in Slovenia or abroad (although he has already lead several workshops for professional and amateur puppeteers in different parts of the world from the Czech Republic to Hong Kong). The Wishing Table project will be dedicated to our youngest audience. It belongs to the part of Mini teater program reaching for known literary texts that serve as ground-works in the research of puppet performance.

Marek Bečka with his original and well recognisable touch as director, and the young musician Jose with his energetic modern music and live performed songs – a team that will create a performance not easy to forget. Aljaž Jovanovič, a young graduating student of the Ljubljana Theatre Academy, acts in this performance for the first time side by side with Jose.
