Napoleon za otroke / Napoleon for Children / Napoleon pour les enfants
In the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Illyrian Provinces our theatre MINI TEATER in co-operation with the French Cultural Institute and the Ministry of Culture will prepare an entertaining programme on Napoleon and the valiant Carinthians (Tinny the Cock). The performance is meant for children from 4 years up and adults.
Performed by: Robert Waltl, Gaja Moederndorfer, Jernej Kuntner and Romana Šalehar
The performance will take place on Saturday, June 20, at 18:00 in the MINI TEATER hall on Ljubljana Castle. All tickets: 5 €
The performance is enriched by simple hand-puppets, called lileki. Niko Kuret, a researcher into pre-literary forms and folk theatre described these traditional folk puppets as “typically Slovenian-Kajkavian puppet theatre”. Original Slovenian lileki (puppets–scarecrows) were predominantly used at jocular traditional market or nuptial and other ceremonies. The revival of lileki in European puppetry is unprecedented, thus the authors of the show negate the statement that Slovenia has no inheritance of puppetry.
This folk tale in one act takes place around 1809. It is situated somewhere in the Upper Carniola in the present-day Slovenia. A story from the lives of big landowners is replete with familial bonds and devoted love as well as happy coincidences that without the crowing Tinny Cock-a-doodle-doo wouldn’t have been possible. It is a love story about the wealthy Micika (Mary) and poor youth Tine (Tony) and their adventures - also with Napoleon - as well as cunningness with a happy ending.
