JUNE IN LJUBLJANA

Three Mini teater’s performances in June at Kongresni trg, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Monday, 11th June 2012 at 10 am.

SNOW WHITE

Performance directed by extraordinary director Marek Bečka, who has already in Mini teater set on stage Puss in Boots and The wishing table. Marek Bečka’s adaptions are always full of black humor, improvisation and dribbling between different puppet techniques and their stage methodology. In his adaptations he stays loyal to the basic elements but on the other hand with bald approaches shapes his own sharpness of humor, through which real and actual reflection of the world is shown. Therefore the characters of Mini teater’s Snow white are no longer set in the world of magical forest and trees, ideal nature, poisoned apples and magical kisses. But on the other hand there cannot be a Snow white without the evil stepmother, magical mirror, dwarfs and of course the savior.

TOM THUMB

This performance was created for our youngest spectators. The adaptation of the well known Grimm's fairy tale was done in co-operation with prominent Czech artists: Pavel Polak, a freelance artist and former director and art manager of the Czech theatre Naivni Divadlo Liberec; Jaroslav Milfajt, set and puppet designer working with most of the Czech theatres; and Vitezslav Hadl, a popular Czech composer who, among other, works a lot for film and television. Polak's Tom Thumb represents a variation based upon motives from a classical fairy tale about a little boy with a great heart.

This is a story about a couple with no children. They finally get a child, a little boy who is no bigger than a thumb, so they name him Tom Thumb. The boy is strong and he can help his father in ploughing. They are very poor, so Tom Thumb convinces his father to sell him to the King. The King, however, gives Tom Thumb as a present to the Princess who treats him very badly. So, Tom Thumb decides to run away. On his way he meets two brigands who are planning to rob the King's treasury. Tom Thumb is brave enough to chase the two bandits away. The King is grateful and he grants Tom Thumb the permission to return to his parents.
