A Bag of Marbles tells a story of two brothers Joseph and Maurice. As the German Army arrives in Paris, their father Roman and mother Anna, decide that their family must split up to flee Paris. They send the elder brothers on a route to Nice. Meanwhile, Maurice must protect his younger brother Joseph during their own treacherous escape. The bag of marbles the boys often played with gets left behind in Paris, symbolizing their innocence being left behind as they navigate German occupied France.
