9th Festival House of Tolerance 2023 - House of Others

Mini teater Ljubljana and the Jewish Cultural Centre Ljubljana are pleased to announce the 9th House of Tolerance Festival 2023 - House of Others.

The festival will be opened on 13 November 2023 at 19.00 in Mini teater by Dr. Dominika Švarc Pipan, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a screening of the film LIEBE ANGST. The screening will be attended by a special guest, the film's director Sandra Prechtel.

At this year's festival, which is special because all events are free of charge, the audience will have the opportunity to see some of the most engaging feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated films of recent production, focusing on tolerance, human rights, the relationship between the individual and the state, social engagement, as well as topical and important issues such as wars, refugees, media propaganda and the culture of remembrance. The festival will screen more than 20 films from the USA, Germany, Poland, Israel, Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, France, UK, Cyprus, etc. Guests of the festival will be the German director of the film Liebe Angst, Sandra Prechtel, the American director of the film Four Winters, Julia Mintz and the producer of the film Zhen Cheah, the Polish director of the film A Story of One Crime, Mariusz Pilis and the producer of the film Dagmara Pilis. All films are subtitled in English and Slovenian.

A very important part of the festival is a special programme for primary and secondary schools - the Educational Morning programme. This year, young audiences will have the opportunity to see the films Where is Anne Frank, Letter to a Pig and My Father´s War, followed by a discussion on the Holocaust, human rights and tolerance.

During the festival, visitors will be able to see the exhibitions Anne Frank - A Story for the Present, organised by the Museum of Recent and Contemporary History of Slovenia, and the permanent exhibition Holocaust in Ljubljana.

Vita Mavrič and the Quartet Akord will perform the project Almonds and Raisins, a project of Jewish - klezmer chansons, the theatre performance The Diary of Anne Frank will be performed in Radovljica during the festival, and the Mini teater stage will also host the presentation of the book The Volunteer, a lecture by Dr. Boris Vezjak entitled Why is hatred of Islam a variation of Nazi hatred of Jews?, a talk on anti-Semitism and a narrative performance entitled Irma shouldn't ask, co-produced by KD Pripovedovalski Variete, Mini teater and Slovenian Youth Theatre.

All programmes of the House of Tolerance festival are free of charge for visitors. Tickets can be picked up at the Mini teater box office.
