Opening night of The Little Mermaid at Mini teater

Opening night of The Little Mermaid at Mini teater

The latest performance staged at Mini teater and directed by Ivica Buljan was created after the fairytale written by the Danish writer and poet Hans Christian Andersen: The Little Mermaid. The performance represents an original attempt of joining three different theatre genres: story-telling, children performance with a special dramaturgy adapted for our youngest audience, and a performance as a hybrid form at the edge of visual art.

From its very beginnings, Mini teater with its programme has been nursing a researching approach to the theatre for children: we tried to invent ways not strictly following the traditional forms (specific text adaptation in Hansel and Gretchen by Andrej Rozman Roza, theatre-puppet performance Mojca and the Animals, The Story of Tsar Saltan as an art cabaret, Thumbelina as the first virtual puppet performance in the world) The goal of The Little Mermaid  is to make a step towards the post-drama theatre for children. The actors Pia Zemljič and Gregor Gruden first represent two story tellers, then they interpret different roles, and in the end they become also creators of stage action, energy, and space shapers.

The author of the music is Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar. Great importance in the performance is dedicated to the excellent costume design created by Ana Savič Gecan, which highlights the duality between the siren and the human.

Do not miss this performance in February. It is a performance where the Mermaid saves the Prince after a shipwreck and then decides to do something risky – to win the Prince's love.
