Mini teater performing at festivals in Portugal, Italy and Croatia

In the coming couple of months important guest performances await Mini teater. At the biggest and most important Portuguese theatre festival in Almada, Mini teater’s greatest hit Macbeth After Shakespeare will be staged three times in a row – on the 8th, 9th and 10th of July. A text by Heiner Müller directed by Ivica Buljan and starring Marko Mandić, Milena Zupančič and Jure Henigman won Grand Prix for best performance at Maribor Theatre Festival in 2009. After touring in New York, Seoul, Havana, Belgrade and Zagreb it now comes to Almada festival where it will be presented as part of the elite showcase next to the world’s greatest names of theatre like Italian authors Pippo Delbono and Emma Dante, Hungarian choreographer Jozsef Nagy, German group She She Pop, cult British ensemble Cheek by Jowl by director Declan Donnellan and French director Joel Pommerat. A wide selection of Argentinian theatre will also be presented.

On 21st of July a new staging by Ivica Buljan, A Tomb for Boris Davidovič will premiere at Mittelfest in Cividale. This cult story written by Danilo Kiš was published in 1976 to stormy reviews from the then Yugoslav cultural audience. A work that still disturbs this part of Europe turned its author into one of the most important writers of the 20th Century. Pseudo-documentary style of the text and its epic structure serve as an inspiration for discovering the great system of history through the life story of a tragic hero Novsky, a participant in October revolution suspected of high treason. The greatness of Kiš’s work is that it explains the crimes of the 20th Century in a clear and straightforward style analysing the suffering of an individual fighting the social order. Performance is a co-production between Mini teater, Hartefakt from Belgrade and Novo kazalište Zagreb. Artistic team consists of composer Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar, duo son:DA (Metka Golec and Miha Horvat) who will take care of the set and light design and costumographer Ana Savič Gecan. An actor from Ljubljana Benjamin Krnetić leads the cast of international thespians from Zagreb and Belgrade. Also performing is Boris Vlastelica, frontman of the rock group Repetitor from Belgrade.

After Mittelfest A Tomb for Boris Davidovič will guest perform in August at festivals Zadar Snova and Splitsko ljeto/Split Summer.
