About the performance

The play tells the story of Carrot Dwarf, who lives with his friend Sapramiška in a carrot patch. Carrot (as Svetlana calls him later in the story), after a fight with Sapramiška, bravely throws himself into an unknown world. Along the way, he meets sunflowers, a snake named Jarmila, a cuckoo, a dwarf named Fern and his friend Črnomiška, and many other creatures. Carrot had a great time, but at the end of the day he missed his mouse - and she missed him.

Carrot Dwarf represents the modern child and shows all his qualities throughout the story. Sapramiška, Jarmila the snake, the cuckoo and the other creatures represent grown-up people who only play a supporting role.

Carrot shows his stubbornness and anger and heroically sets off alone into the wide world after he and Sapramiška have a fight. He soon succumbs to his own naivety, convinced that the sunflowers are pointing him in the right direction. Carrot also displays a semblance of heroism (like the children) when he convincingly tells the cuckoo that he is not afraid of him, even though he is obviously very scared of him. Typical childish fear is even more evident when Carrot is frightened by Jarmila the snake and when he cannot find his way home in the evening. Throughout the story, even though Carrot wanders around the world with childish playfulness, he is always longing to return home to his Sapramiška.

The show is directed by Robert Waltl, with art and puppets designed by long-time Mini teater collaborator, Czech puppeteer and set designer Robert Smolik, and music and acting by Jose. A mobile, engaging and joyful puppet show that has become a new Mini teater hit for our youngest visitors. We look forward to touring on stages large and small in Slovenia and perhaps abroad.
