For the 13th year, the traditional celebration of Križevniška Neighbour Day 2024 will take place on Križevniška Street, one of the oldest streets in the historic centre of Ljubljana. The street has always been loved by artists and intellectuals, but it is still loved by all of us who, through our work and the help of friends, passers-by and lovers of the beautiful, have managed to make it green, flourishing and alive.
The event will take place on Thursday 20th of June 2024, starting at 17:00 with the first set by the renowned DJ Woo-D. Igor Večerič known as DJ Woo-D has been collecting and playing vinyl records since 2005. His musical styles range from funk, soul, jazz, ethno to latin, afro and breakbeat. Locally, he is a member of the DJ collective Tetkine radosti, which plays forgotten Yugoslav gems from the 60s, 70s and 80s. As a DJ, Woo-D has performed on the stages of numerous bars, clubs and festivals in Europe, Russia and even the USA, but lately he has been focusing more on music production and live performance with synthesizers, samplers and effects.
At 18:00, the puppet performance The Wolf and the Goatlings will follow on Križevniška Street. This interesting and endearing performance deals with the ever topical issue of children left alone at home, unaware of the dangers that lurk in front of them. A mother goat is looking after a bunch of children on her own, so despite the danger lurking, she has to leave the forest to find food. She warns the children about the wolf, but the wolf deceives them while she is away. When they open the door to him, he shoves them into a sack and escapes. The events are watched by neighbours, Ignacij the duck and his wife Amalija. Upon her return, they tell the mother about the accident and help her to find the wolf and rescue the goatlings. The performance was the 2001 directorial debut of Robert Waltl, then a graduate of acting at the AGRFT in Ljubljana, later an actor at the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, founder and director of Mini teater and organiser of numerous children's events in Slovenia. The cast includes Barbara Vidovič, Robert Korošec and Anže Zevnik. The visual design was prepared by painter Daniel Demšar, who, alongside his artistic work, is involved in designing sets, costumes and puppets for all the most prominent puppet theatres in Slovenia. He has created numerous human, animal and imaginary creatures to enhance the verbal messages of puppet performances. The music, which is based on ethno motifs, is treated in a modern way by Peter Kus, a composer who has scored several dance, children's performances and silent films, a former leader of the Pavel Vlasov Sextet and a member of the ethno group Tolovaj Mataj.
After the show, there will be a second set by DJ Woo-Dja, followed by the traditional concert by the band Anbot, led by composer Aldo Kumar, at 21:00. Anbot brings together musicians of different musical backgrounds and, above all, varied professional missions, who, with great dedication and few music schools, co-create a combination of music that is rarely heard nowadays. Anbot's repertoire includes songs from the Balkan nations (Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania), kletzmer (Jewish traditional music), film themes (Fellini - Amarcord), Irish and French folk motifs, old Latin hits and other songs that evoke nostalgia with their melodic impulses and paint the landscape of a time when live music still connected people with the warmth of its expressiveness.
Throughout the event, various artists working on Križevniška Street will be presenting their work and there will also be a rich culinary experience.
We will also open the first part of the outdoor art installation "Mini Time Portal" on the benches of Križevniška Street, where visual artist Toni Soprano Meneglejte has created a 25-year history of Mini teater in Slovenian and English on more than 15 benches.
The event is supported by Tourism Ljubljana - Visit Ljubljana.
