On Wednesday, 25th September, the Jewish Cultural Centre and Mini teater, as a part of the European project TRAST, hosted the event Songs in Yiddish and Conversations about What We Carry Within - a musical encounter with Rabbi Motl Gordon, a prominent expert on Jewish culture and customs.
During the event, Rabbi Motl Gordon introduced the audience to the Yiddish language, sharing its rich history and current usage. He led an engaging discussion about the people who still speak Yiddish today and shared personal stories and songs, all accompanied by live musical performances.
Motl Gordon is the founder of the Hopescrolling volunteer project, a social entrepreneur. He started out as a researcher and teacher of Yiddish culture, especially its language and music. Initially, he used these astools to help build Jewish identity, then Judaism itself. Later, as a rabbi, Motl became increasingly focused on the Jewish concept of social responsibility, now expressing this value through both language and music, intertwining culture and community action.
This event, as part of the TRAST project, provided an opportunity for the Jewish community living and working as a minority in Ljubljana to engage deeply with their cultural heritage, while also adding value to the project's research on members of the Jewish community
