On December 30, 2024, Jewish Cultural Center Ljubljana and Mini Teater organized a traditional candle lighting ceremony at Križevniška street for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, led by the director Robert Waltl and Rabbi Alexander Grodensky from Luxembourg. The event was attended by members of the Jewish community, numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps, foreign cultural centers, and representatives of other religions, highlighting the importance of intercultural connection and respect.
After the candle lighting, the invited guests visited the Jewish Cultural Center, for the opening of the exhibition of photographic portraits of members of the Slovenian Jewish community and their supporters. The author of the photographs in the exhibition is photographer Igor Huzbašić, and the exhibition was created as part of the European project TRAST – transmedia stories about isolation.
After the exhibition, we also organized a concert by the internationally recognized musician from Amsterdam, Nani Vazana, in the Mini teater hall as part of the European project TRAST. With her voice and interpretation of Ladino music, the language of Sephardic Jews, Nani Vazana created a magical evening filled with historical stories of love, sorrow, and hope. Ladino, an ancient language blending Spanish, Hebrew, and other languages, was the perfect choice for preserving and revitalizing the rich musical heritage of Sephardic tradition.
After the concert, a conversation followed, offering an in-depth insight into Jewish heritage, with an emphasis on the importance of preserving and sharing different cultural traditions.
Visitors also enjoyed in the selection of the Jewish Cuisine.
