About the performance
The Sun Wears a Crown is the story of a playful boy named Srečko who searches the forest for his runaway cat, Felix. A tale of courage and loneliness, it is woven from motifs found in the works of Srečko Kosovel.
Young Srečko, accompanied by his companion the Sun, sets out to solve a riddle that is meant to lead him to his lost tomcat. In the forest, he encounters beings and objects that give him courage and unfold eternal questions of life. He speaks with a stone about eternity, learns about the solitude of sea and land from a sailor, and with the Queen of the Karst—a juniper bush—discovers his own song.
The story of Srečko and the Sun is a gentle and playful ode to sensitivity, the essential life companion that permeates Kosovel’s poetry. The performance lightly weaves humorous episodes with more demanding themes such as the fear of loneliness and death. Scenes featuring poetry set to music present some of the gems of Kosovel’s deep attunement to nature, justice, and the wonders we call life.
The performance follows the golden thread of childlike curiosity, reminding us that even adults do not truly understand the world. And that above us there is always the Sun, whose crown shows us the way—if only we are open to a touch of magic. As the Sun says: “There are no miracles; everything is a miracle!”
