On the 100th anniversary of the death of Srečko Kosovel, a new sensual and bold performance titled The Sun Wears a Crown will premiere at Mini Teater, transforming the life and poetry of this remarkable Slovenian poet into a magnetic theatrical experience.
Sečko Kosovel spent his final years in Ljubljana on Križevniška Street, in a house opposite what is now Mini Teater, and it is at this very location that the theatre pays tribute to him.
The Sun Wears a Crown tells the story of a playful boy, Srečko, who ventures into the forest in search of his runaway cat, Felix. Accompanied by his companion—the Sun—young Srečko solves a mystery that is meant to lead him to his lost tomcat. Along the way, he encounters creatures and objects that give him courage while unfolding timeless questions about life.
The performance gently weaves humorous episodes with more demanding themes such as the fear of loneliness and death. It follows a golden thread of childlike curiosity, reminding us that even adults do not truly understand the world—and that above us there is always the Sun, whose crown shows us the way, if only we remain open to a touch of magic. As the Sun says: “There are no miracles—everything that exists is a miracle!”
The performance is directed by Filip Mramor. It stars Daniel Petković, with dramaturgy and assistant direction by Bor Ravbar. The set design, costumes, stage construction, and illustrations are by Karolína Kotrbová. Music and sound design are by Melani Popit DeBock and Lenart DeBock, and lighting design is by Gregor Kuhar.
