On the 100th anniversary of the death of the poet Srečko Kosovel, our neighbor from Križevniška Street, we invite you to join us on Wednesday, 27th May, on Križevniška Street, where we will dedicate the entire day to his memory, his poetry, and his still-living, radiant thought.
Kosovel was a poet of the Kras, of Križevniška, of Europe, and of the future. A poet of the sun and foreboding, of tenderness and resistance, of childlike curiosity and sharp social sensitivity. On Križevniška Street, where he once lived in our immediate neighborhood, we will honor him with theatre, poetry, music, and gathering together.
This year, the benches on Križevniška Street are also dedicated to his poetry. Verses by Srečko Kosovel were designed for the benches by Toni Soprano Meneglejte, and throughout the year they will bring his words closer to passers-by, visitors, and residents of Križevniška Street, intertwining the space with his poetry.
The morning program will be intended for children from kindergartens and schools.
At 5:00 PM, the performance Sonce ima krono/The Sun Wears a Crown will begin at Mini Teater at Križevniška 1. The production is an original project by young author and director Filip Mramor, created based on motifs from the works of Srečko Kosovel. The performance is intended for children aged 5 and up as well as adults, and lasts 50 minutes.
The Sun Wears a Crown is the story of a playful boy named Srečko, who searches the forest for his runaway cat, Felix. Accompanied by the Sun, he solves a riddle that is meant to lead him to the lost tomcat, while encountering beings and objects that give him courage and open up profound questions about life. The performance lightly intertwines humorous adventures with more demanding themes such as fear of loneliness and death, reminding us that above us there is always the Sun, whose crown shows us the way - if only we are receptive to a touch of magic.
After the performance, at 6:00 PM, the program will move to Križevniška Street, where Slovenian theatre actors and the Elinor Vocal Quartet will join us with recitations of Kosovel’s poetry.
The singers of the Elinor Vocal Quartet - Nina Fajertag (soprano), Dora Dacar (alto), Robert Feguš (tenor), and Žiga Dunaj (bass) - perform Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary choral literature, enriching sacred, ceremonial, concert, and other events with their carefully curated programs.
In memory of the poet, the flavors of his native Karst region will also arrive from the Kras - Teran wine and prosciutto from the Domačija GEC homestead.
The event is free of charge.
The program has been made possible by Tourism Ljubljana.
You are warmly invited to Križevniška Street - to Srečko Kosovel, the poet of the sun, the Karst, foreboding, and the future.
